Is Britain's railway on time right now?

Every passenger train moving on the network, scored the moment it passes a signal or a station. No waiting for end-of-day statistics: this is the railway as it is running now.

The live feed is temporarily unavailable, so no score is shown. We never score simulated trains. Please check back in a few minutes.

The last 24 hours

Share of running passenger trains within 5 minutes of schedule, sampled every 10 minutes. The dashed line marks 90%.

The 24-hour chart fills in as samples are recorded every 10 minutes.

How the Pulse is measured

Official punctuality figures, such as the Public Performance Measure and "On Time", are published after journeys finish, often weeks later. The Pulse answers a different question: how is the railway running at this moment?

We take every passenger train currently reported on the network through Network Rail's TRUST movement feed, refined by signalling-berth (Train Describer) data and opt-in traveller GPS. A train counts as on time when its most recent report is less than five minutes behind its timetable. Freight, engineering trains, empty coaching stock, metros and trams are excluded, and operators with fewer than three trains running are left out of the league so one late train can't swing a percentage.

Because it scores trains mid-journey, the Pulse reacts within minutes to a signal failure or a points problem, long before any official figure would. It is an independent indicator, not an official statistic. For your own journey, check the live map or your station's departure board.
